Dialogue & Expression

Build skills for meaningful dialogue, engage across differences and help strengthen a connected Brown community.

Dialogue is an important part of learning and community life at Brown. Campus Life offers programs, training and consultation that help students and other members of the Brown community listen with curiosity, communicate across differences, navigate complex issues and participate constructively in campus life.

Whether you are looking to strengthen your own dialogue skills, plan a program or event, or participate in activism, protest or demonstration, resources are available to help.

Community Dialogue Project

The Community Dialogue Project (CDP) creates opportunities for students, faculty and staff to build the skills needed for productive dialogue and engagement across differences.

Through interactive workshops and programs, participants can practice active listening, giving and receiving feedback, empathy, accountability and respectful communication. CDP also works with groups across Brown to support conversations about complex issues and strengthen connection and understanding across the community.

Multi-Partial Team

The Multi-Partial Team (MPT) is a group of trained Brown staff who provide consultation and support around events involving activism, protest, demonstration and potentially controversial issues.

The team can serve as a thought partner for event organizers as they plan for programs that may generate strong interest or differing perspectives. MPT members also provide information and support to students and others who plan to participate in activism, protest or demonstration.

The team’s role is to help participants understand available resources, University policies and options for engagement while supporting an environment in which expression and participation can take place.
