Welcome from Vice President Poitevien

Dear Students, Colleagues and Members of the Brown Community,Vice President Patricia Poitevien Headshot

Welcome to Campus Life. I’m honored to serve as Brown’s Vice President for Campus Life. As a Brown alumna, pediatrician, educator and parent, I know that a student’s experience is shaped by far more than what happens in the classroom. It is also shaped by the relationships they form, the communities they join, the challenges they navigate and the support they receive along the way.

My own Brown journey began through the Program in Liberal Medical Education. While Brown gave me an extraordinary academic foundation, the relationships I built and the ways I grew beyond the classroom have remained just as meaningful throughout my life. That experience continues to shape how I approach this work.

The Division of Campus Life includes more than 20 departments, offices and centers supporting undergraduate, graduate and medical students. Our work spans housing, health and well-being, student activities, affinity and community centers, religious and spiritual life, mentorship, leadership development, crisis response and many other aspects of the student experience.

Together, we are focused on helping students engage fully with Brown’s Open Curriculum, creating a living-learning environment that supports growth, strengthening systems of care and preparing students to lead lives of usefulness and reputation. We are also committed to building trust through clear communication, thoughtful stewardship and decisions informed by evidence and the experiences of our community.

That work requires us to listen closely, collaborate across organizational boundaries and continually reconsider how our programs and services can best meet students’ evolving needs. It also means creating an environment where students feel safe, supported and empowered to take increasing ownership of their Brown experience.

Whether you are a student seeking support, a colleague interested in collaboration or a family member learning more about Brown, I invite you to explore this site and connect with the many people and resources available to you.

It is a privilege to serve a community that has played such an important role in my own life. Thank you for being part of Brown. We are glad you are here.

Warmly,

Patricia Poitevien, M.D., M.Sc., FAAP
