Biography
Dorsey Spencer, Jr. serves as Associate Vice President for Campus Life and Dean of Students.
Dr. Dorsey Spencer, Jr. (he/him) serves as Associate Vice President for Campus Life and Dean of Students at Brown University, where he provides leadership for Student Accessibility Services, Student Activities Office, Student Conduct and Community Standards, and Student Support Services. As a member of the Campus Life leadership team since July 2026, Dr. Spencer works closely with students, staff, faculty, and campus partners to strengthen Brown’s student-centered systems of support, engagement, accountability, and belonging.
Before joining Brown, Dr. Spencer served as Dean of Students at Colgate University, where he led a broad student affairs portfolio and partnered across the institution to advance co-curricular engagement, coordinated care, crisis response, community-building, and student success. His work focused on developing integrated systems that support students, strengthen organizational effectiveness, and foster inclusive campus communities.
Dr. Spencer has also held leadership roles at Florida State University, the American University of Nigeria, Bucknell University, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Throughout his career, he has focused on building responsive, collaborative, and inclusive student affairs organizations that support leadership development, student agency, and a sense of belonging.
