Biography

Kate Porter (she/her), Director of Campus Life Communications, serves a key leadership role in the Office of the Vice President for Campus Life at Brown University. She collaborates with senior leaders, including the Vice President for Campus Life, to develop and execute strategic communications, constituency-based marketing, and outreach efforts that align with and elevate divisional priorities. She acts as a thought partner and consultant for staff within the 20 offices, departments, and centers in the Division to provide strategic support. Kate joined the Division of Campus Life in May 2022.

From 2019 to 2022, Kate served as Assistant Director of Communications and Public Engagement for the Swearer Center for Public Service at Brown University. She led the center’s communications team, provided strategic communications support for three executive directors, liaised with Brown’s Division of Advancement to steward key donors, and convened communicators from across campus to improve collaboration and shared learning. 

Prior to joining Brown, Kate spent a decade managing communications, development, and special events for a number of nonprofit organizations, including the Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence and South County Habitat for Humanity. She designed and implemented statewide public awareness campaigns, worked with local and national media outlets, developed messaging to influence lawmakers and public policy, and provided national-level communications training for survivors and advocates.

Kate earned an M.S. in Organizational Leadership from Quinnipiac University, a B.A. in International Relations from Mount Holyoke College, and is a proud graduate of the 2018 Xi II Class of Leadership Rhode Island. She serves on the Board of Directors for Wood River Health, where she is an active member of the DEI committee. Kate enjoys spending time outdoors with her children and dogs, playing soccer, hiking, reading, running, and painting.
