Division of Campus Life

Our Mission, Vision and Values

The mission of the Division of Campus Life is to educate students and collaborate with them to promote personal growth, holistic well-being and open inquiry as they lead lives of purpose and integrity in inclusive communities at Brown and in the world.

We will be an innovative and adaptable community of educators that creates a seamless and transformative experience for all Brown students by equipping them to succeed academically, empowering them to be in community together as their authentic selves and supporting them in developing skills for life after Brown.

As a division, we strive for excellence in the student experience we foster and the professional work environment we create. We commit to living the following core values in our work with both students and one another. These values represent the principles to which we aspire and the behaviors we will model as educators, mentors and colleagues.

We inspire our students and colleagues to think creatively, test hypotheses, explore new ideas, anticipate future needs and challenge the status quo.
We build trust with our students and colleagues by upholding commitments, making processes transparent, practicing open communication and taking ownership of our actions and behaviors.
We encourage our students and colleagues to value other perspectives, build healthy mutual relationships and seek out opportunities to partner across differences.
We create a culture of care for our students and colleagues by seeking to understand their perspectives, needs and experiences and acting with generosity and compassion.
We identify and work to remove barriers impeding the success and well-being of students and colleagues and we challenge power and resource imbalances to create more just outcomes.
We create communities that affirm our students and colleagues by empowering them to be their full, authentic selves and encouraging open and free inquiry.
