We are sharing a new “Title VI, Nondiscrimination and ‘DEI’ FAQ” as a resource for community members who have questions about Brown’s policies and commitments related to nondiscrimination and diversity and inclusion. This is the second in an ongoing series of FAQs developed in response to questions being shared by members of our community following the July 30 announcement of Brown's agreement with the federal government.
This new FAQ offers answers to frequently asked questions about how Brown’s long-established policies related to Title VI (the federal law prohibiting discrimination based on race, color, or national origin) align with the University’s voluntary resolution agreement. It addresses common questions about Brown’s processes, complaint resolution procedures and community resources for ensuring compliance with laws prohibiting harassment and discrimination against all members of our community, as well as how this aligns with the work of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion and Brown’s ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion as essential to a strong academic community.
On Aug. 7, 2025, the University also shared an FAQ created in response to questions we have received from our community, the "Sex and Gender Policies and Gender-Affirming Care FAQ," which also continues to be updated. Both the previous FAQ and this new FAQ are posted on the Office of Equity Compliance and Reporting website as an ongoing resource, but were developed in collaboration with many support offices across Brown and will be updated on an ongoing basis.
Beyond the questions addressed in the two posted FAQs, the community has raised questions about other provisions of the federal agreement. Members of Brown’s senior administration continue to collaborate with relevant departments to determine how specific provisions apply to current policies and processes, and to outline how any necessary changes will be implemented.
