Winter Break Resources

Resources and support are available for students during Winter Break and Winter Session 2024.

The University’s extended Winter Break begins at the end of the normal workday on Friday, December 20, 2024, with normal operations resuming on Monday, January 6, 2025. Most offices will be closed during this time; exceptions and support resources are outlined below.

 

Emergency Services

In the event of an emergency, the Department of Public Safety (DPS) and Brown Emergency Medical Services (EMS) are available 24/7, including during Winter Break and Winter Session. Any member of the Brown community can call 401-863-3322 for assistance.

 

Student Support

  • The Administrator on Call (AOC) is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, for assistance with urgent matters. To reach the AOC, which is staffed by members of the Division of Campus Life, call 401-863-3322 and ask to speak to the Administrator On Call.   • Student Support Services and the Office of the Chaplains and Religious Life will be closed during the Winter Break; they will be available when normal operations resume on Monday, January 6.

 

Student Health & Wellness 

  • Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) provides urgent care for students through TimelyCare Teletherapy or by calling CAPS on Demand at 401-863-3476. Visit the CAPS website for more information.
  • Student Health Services is available to students for 24/7 nursing advice; call 401-863-1330. For emergency medical care, call 401-863-4111 to be connected with the appropriate resources. Visit the Health Services website for more information.
  • BWell Health Promotion staffs the Sexual Assault Response Line, a 24-hour, confidential telephone line for crisis response in an incident of sexual or interpersonal violence. Call 401-863-6000 to reach a counselor.

 

Housing

Residence halls will close at noon on Sunday, December 22, following the conclusion of the final exam period on Saturday, December 21. All card access will be disabled at that time, except for students with prior approval to remain on campus. Should students need to adjust their departure or arrival dates, they should contact the AOC for assistance. (Please note that approval for winter break housing does not include winter break meal services; see the dining section below.) Dining

Dining operations will be limited during Winter Break and Winter Session. Fall 2024 meal plans expire when final exams conclude on Saturday, December 21. All Dining facilities will be closed on Sunday, December 22, to prepare for winter service. Breakfast/lunch bags will be available for pick up on Saturday, December 21, at Sharpe Refectory for students who will need meals on Sunday. Library

The University Library will be offering limited building hours and services. Visit the Library website for details. 

 

Recreation

Brown Recreation will have adjusted hours of operation during Winter Break and Winter Session; view them on the slider on the Brown Recreation website

 

Programming and Events

Many offices provide programming and events to support students who remain on campus during Winter Break and Winter Session. Find events on Today@BrownEvents@Brown, the Campus Life Events webpage, or check your email for more information. 

 

Travel Guidance for International Community

The Office of Global Engagement has issued guidance for members of our international community who may be traveling during Winter Break, suggesting they consider returning to Providence before Monday, January 20, 2025.
